Punctuation And Quotation Marks

The rule would seem obvious: If the quotation is just a phrase or a minor part of the overall sentence, the quote is delimited with a quotation mark and the essay. The use of quotation marks, also called inverted commas, is very slightly complicated by the fact that there are two types:

The professor said, “read the article entitled ‘how to grow hydroponic tomatoes.'” notice how the period at the end goes before both the single quotation mark and the regular (double) quotation mark. It departs from advice in the sixth edition about the position of punctuation and quotation marks in sentences interrupted by expressions, such as ‘they said’.
